Pianlu Nabe

Pianlu Nabe is very simple Nappa Cabbage hot pot dish. It's originally from China and a Japanese writer introduced this dish on his blog or something and then it got very popular in Japan right now. It is really simple,  no seasonning and just cook nappa cabbage and meat in the dried shitake mushroom broth. I guess I have heard too much good reputation. It was ok, or did I make wrong? I am going to ask my friend the recipe to make sure.

Appetizer : Dashimaki (Japanese Style omlet), Shrimp and Asparagus with Wasabi Soy Sauce dressing

Pianlu Nabe

Add salt and shichimi pepper(mixed red hot chilli pepper) as you like

Btw, finally I found the best way to use yellow pages!

Kabocha no Nimono

1. Cut Kabocha (half of a small one). It's not necessary but I peel some parts of skin to make it be cooked easier.
.
2. Add 1 cup of broth, 2 tsp of sugar and 2tsp of soy sauce. Simmer on the low heat till kabocha gets done.

3. Done!

Pork Roast

Lunch on Jan. 5.  J cooked pork for New Years Day, but I coundn't have it because I had to go to work. Wow, he did really good job. I am not a big fan of pork roast because it's sometimes dry. But this pork was so moist and tender! It was good and I liked the sauce which I don't know the ingredience. Anyway, Thank you J.

Pork Rib, Mashpotatoes, Asparagus, brussel sprout

hmmmm, yummy!

Dish, Osteria and Bar

Dinner at Dish on Jan. 3. I think it is very difficult to find good pasta at restaurant in Pittsburgh. Most of the place, they are overcooked. Al dente is not common here?? Anyway, Dish is the only restaurant I feel comfortable to order pasta. I mean I come here to eat pasta. They have also good appetizer. Dish is always busy, so reservatons are highly suggested even if you go early evening on weekday.

Bombay Sapphire Martini : My favort! Dry as desert!

Bread and Olive oil with balsamic vinegar as starter

Crostini alla Scamorza : Toasted ciabatta bread with smoked mozzarella, prosciutto, sautéed mushrooms and basil - I liked it. I was still drinking Martini, but it would go good with dry white wine or beer. I also had a octopus dish, Polpo alla Griglia. It had 3 tentacles with salad.

Petto d’Anatra : Pan roasted breat of duck in a lingonberry demiglace with butter and sage potato gnocchi and rapini - It is perfect middium rare, but it doesn't smell to wild. I enjoyed it. and the rapini is a bit bitter and it gives a good accent on the plate.

Rigatoni allla Scamorza : Cream sauce with parmigiano cheese, green peas and prosciutto - It was not on the menu. The bartender reccomended me. It was really good and very rich. Of course, pasta was perfect!

Happy New Year

Brunch on New Years Day : Of course, Pork, Kielbasa and Sauerkraut. I started 2013 in American way. I was too busy to make Japanese traditional New Years Meal. Hopefully I will try next year.
By the way, what is your New Year Resolution? One of mine is not to fall asleep on the couch. I have already failed on the first day. I slept on my friend at skype and woke up at 6am on the couch. I am sorry but it was the best way to have new years day. I miss you, girl.
