New Year Day

Happy New Year 2014!
This is the third New Year Day since I moved to Pittsburgh. At last, I made Japanese traditional New Years Meal, Osechi. Each dish means good luck. Hope we all have a good year!

Onishime (cooked vegetables) ; carrot and burdock root are root vegetables. Stand firm just like root vegetables spread their roots. ; Lotus roots have holes. See through good future.

Kobumaki (Stuffed Kelp)

Tazukuri (caramelized fish and walnuts)

Namasu (pickled radish and carrot)

Zouni (Northeast area style)

Zouni (Kansai area style)

This is the year of horse in Chinese astrology. Do you find the horse candies?
